Golden Week Day 13

You can see the pics posted during the trip here.

Here are a few shots of the area near the very rural, airport hostel.

I took the train from the airport to Narita station and then headed off to explore the area.
空港から成田駅まで電車で行った。

Thankfully there was a tourist information booth near one of the Narita stations. I took a Japanese map and asked for the woman's recommendations all in Japanese.
観光案内所があったが良かった。日本語でおすすめが聞いて、日本語の地図ももらった。

She recommended Narita's temple for the few hours I had in the area before I needed to get back to the airport, check in and have lunch.
2時間3時間があったから、成田山がおすすめした。

These two old ladies with their umbrella were super cute.

This was the part I liked the best. The forest part, where you could just walk and walk. It reminded me of many places in Oregon.

Another interesting area for selling things. I wanted ice cream. None of these stalls had ice cream.

After I walked around the temple, I headed back for the train station and the airport.

I decided to walk down a different street to see if there were any different things there.

I found these two houses. One looks like old Japan and one looks like it was dropped out of California.

After lunch, I still had time to kill, so I went to the plane viewing area. It was sunny and a great place to sit and wait before having to go check in. It reminded me even more that I wasn't ready to come back to snowy Hokkaido.

Golden Week day 13 mobile

I just got home and I have work tomorrow, so this is going to be short and sweet.
今日帰った。そして、明日仕事があるから、今日のブログは短い。

Today I explored Narita a bit. I asked the woman at the Travel Information office what she recommended for a couple of hours in Narita and she pointed me toward one of the most beautiful temples I’ve been to – it had a gorgeous park!
今日成田に行った。 観光案内の人のおすすめは駅の近い寺。 とてもきれいの。 そして、大きい公園があった。

2013-05-09 10.40.01

After I came back to the airport, I had lunch and then found the observation deck. I was very happy to spend more time in the warm sunshine before heading back to Hokkaido.
空港へ戻ったの後昼ご飯を食べた。送迎デッキへ行って 陽光にいた。とてもうれしかった!

Then it was time to go. Goodbye Tokyo!
その後、帰った。 さよなら東京!

2013-05-09 16.38.18

After I got back, I had about an hour and a half before my train left, so I had dinner with a friend and her mom, who is visiting. This is us on the train before splitting up.

NZ Adventures 9: Auckland

Everyone else headed home a day before I did. So we headed for the airport as a group and met Ben and Mel one last time before we headed home.

Farewell

We swapped NZ dollars for US dollars, gave back some of the things we had of theirs and then headed to take everyone to the airport.

It was sad to say goodbye to so many of the new friends I had made during the week. I hadn’t met Jean, Dolly or Gene before the trip and it was a lot of fun hanging out with them. I knew Marilyn and Dan before the trip and we had fun as usual.

After dropping everyone else off, Dan had a bit of time to hang out in the city so we had lunch and walked around the pier.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 001

A few hours later though he left too. I went exploring. I didn’t have much on my to-do list, but I wanted to go to the top of the Sky Tower and see some of the city.

In my exploring, I found a protest. I’m still not entirely sure what they were protesting, but I thought it was interesting.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 006

A few protesters.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 008

I waited until a bit before sunset and headed for the tower.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 029

The elevator had floor windows.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 030

With the cloud cover, sunset wasn’t too incredible. Though I did find the lines of light from the clouds pretty cool.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 032

They also had windows in the floor.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 037

I enjoyed watching people’s reaction to the windows. Some people held onto the railing for dear life as they walked over it. For some it was no big deal. But my favorite was the 3 young boys who were jumping on it. When I asked about it, I was told they were practicing for bungee jumping someday (you can do that from the tower).

From one location, you can see a countdown until the next time they will drop a bungee jumper. I got to see one.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 047

I was amazed because she was just a little girl, maybe the same age as my little sis. She looked so happy to be out there.

Everyone else had the same idea for timing as I did, so it was fairly busy that afternoon.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 059

Even with the cloud cover, the light was pretty nice.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 064

We interrupt this blog for a tea break . . .

2012-04-28 New Zealand 078

It was delicious!

Unfortunately the light inside and the light outside were two different colors of light.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 094

After the tower I found my way to a café and had a yummy chicken and citrus salad. I loved that it was HUGE.

2012-04-28 New Zealand 099

Of course, being at a café, I couldn’t resist having my new favorite – slice!

2012-04-28 New Zealand 102

Sunday was my last day in NZ and my last day in Auckland. After really, really enjoying worshiping in English the Sunday before I searched on the internet for a church in the area where I was staying.

2012-04-29 New Zealand 003

Unfortunately, I hadn’t realized that NZ had a great number of Pacific Islanders and found myself at a Samoan church, with a congregation who mostly spoke Samoan. I snuck out part way through the service because I couldn’t understand it.

Then I headed back for main Auckland.

I thought the waterfront area was so pretty.

2012-04-29 New Zealand 030

One last slice before it was time to leave. This one was Hokey Pokey.

2012-04-29 New Zealand 040

Goodbye Auckland!

2012-04-29 New Zealand 045

After all the fun I’d had in NZ and the new friends I’d made, I wasn’t ready to return to Japan.
