Dinner with friends

A couple of nights ago, I had some friends over for dinner. We had spaghetti.

水曜日に友達は晩ご飯を食べに来た。　スパゲッティを食べた。

We had a lot of fun hanging out, and in typical 2 year old fashion, R ate exactly what she liked – about 15 mini tomatoes.

とても楽しかった。そして、全部食べ物食べたくないから、１５個ぐらいミニトマトを食べた。

R gave me a beautiful bunch of flowers as a birthday present.

Rちゃんか誕生日のプレセント。　きれいね！

We had Hokkaido asparagus as a part of our dinner. It was yummy!

Lunch with elementary school students

On Wednesday, I got to have lunch with my 6th grade students. It was fun chatting with them.

水曜日に６年生と昼ご飯を食べた。一緒に話を楽しかった。

They’re building a new elementary school practically on top of the old one.　The kids got maps of the new building on Wednesday, it was interesting to see the new layout.

新しい小学校は建っている。生徒は新しい学校の地図をもらった。おもしろい。

They put the roof on the swimming pool. It will be swimming season, soon!

Taco Party

On Saturday, two friends came over for Tacos. They had never had tacos before, so it was fun to get to introduce them to tacos and hang out.

土曜日に２人友達はタコスを食べに来た。　この２人はタコスを食べたことないから、一緒に最初のタコスを食べたこと楽しかった。

Sea of clouds

On Saturday morning, a friend and left town at 4am so owe could see the Sea of Clouds in Tomamu.

土曜日に友達と４時に雲海を見に行った。

When we were driving my friend kept talking about ‘unkai.’ So I decided to look it up. The kanji are “sea” and “clouds.” She was surprised that I understood the kanji, but not the actual word. Those are super easy kanji, but together I wouldn’t have thought they’d be read like that.

運転中に友達は「うんかい」よく言った。　私はうんかいが分からなかったから、辞書に探した。　漢字は「雲海」！　漢字は分かり安い。　でも、読み方は難しかった。

After we got back, it was about 8 am and time for a nap.

帰ったの後に８時ぐらいけど、昼寝の時間。

A Friday drive

On Friday, I visited one of my tiny schools, there are only about 8 students in the whole elementary school. The tiny schools are awesome because I get to talk to all of the kids more.

金曜日にとても小さい小学校へ行った。全員は８人ぐらい。小さい学校に生徒とよく話せるから、大好き。

On my way home, I spotted this, a scene that I always think, I should take a picture, but there’s no good place to pull over. This time I realized it when driving back, and there’s an excellent place to pull over if you’re coming back into the main part of town.

帰る中にこれを見た。いつもきれいと思うけど、金曜日この所の最初写真を撮った。

Sakura in my backyard

That title is a tad-bit misleading, I live in an apartment, I don’t have a backyard. But these sakura bloom behind my apartment every year and until this year, I hadn't made it outside to photograph them.

毎年にこの桜はアパートの後ろに咲いたけど、今年写真を撮ること始まった。

This year, they only bloomed for 4 days, and then suddenly, it wasn't spring anymore, but summer.

今年に４日間しか咲かなかった。以外に夏が来た。

The last last couple of days, I had no interest in trying to take any photos for this challenge, so these were all taken today.

Today my students were studying, “I’m going to . . .” So my JTE showed them the time using a timeline. I thought it was really interesting that the timeline is the opposite of an American one, which would have the past on the left and the future on the right.

今日生徒は「I’m going to ～」と勉強した。英語の先生はタイムラインが使った。面白いことはアメリカのタイムラインの反対。このは明日に左、昨日に右、でもアメリカの昨日は左、明日は右。

June 6: Ice cream

６月６日：アイス

I went to buy Mint Crunky to photograph, but the convenience store in town didn’t have any. What’s the point in buying ice cream in June, if there’s no Mint Crunky?
