First day of boarding

I’m super behind on blogging. Probably because of boarding season this year.

スーボードのせいか、最近ブログしなかった。

This was the first day of boarding season. B and I met up with some friends and did exactly one run because of another event.

この日は今年の最初の日。Bと友達が会って、ボードした。でも、他のイベントがあった、から遅くなった。

My friends. We had a good time.

４人友達！楽しかった。

Of course, after boarding cake is a necessity.

もちろん、スーのボードの後にケーキが必要ね。

After boarding, we made nabe. I’d never had takoyaki nabe. T and I thought A was crazy for suggesting it.

なべを作った。Aのおすすめ味はたこ焼き。Tと私は本当に美味しいかな？と思った。

We were all super hungry when it was finally ready.

とてもお腹が空いた。

Coffee with friends

A couple of weeks ago, I went for coffee with some friends.

２・３週間前に友達たちと遊んだ。

J and the cutest baby in all of Japan came, too!

Jと日本にいる１番可愛い赤ちゃんも来ました。

Here’s the group of us girls. It was fun to have hang out with these lovely ladies.

この友達たちと遊ぶ事が楽しかった。

Fun in Furano

I went into Furano with a friend a few weeks ago. As I came over the pass to meet her, this was the view.

２・３週間前に友達と富良野へ行った。峠にこの眺めが見えた。

It was super foggy in Furano that day. Also, there were elephants.

富良野で霧が多かった。そして、象があった！ 

This was the view as we headed to the onsen.
温泉へ行った中にこれが見えた。

More of that beautiful fog.
霧が綺麗だね。

Why is there an exclamation mark? There is no explanation, not even in Japanese . . .
なぜこれ！がある？説明がない。

After the drive, we made it up to the highest onsen in all of Japan! 
運転の後に温泉へ行った。

When we got to the outdoor bath, I realized we could see the parking lot (and they could see us). 
露天風呂へ行って、駐車場が見える事が分かった。そして、駐車場で居る人も私たちが見える。

The water was really dark, so we just stayed low at first and then moved a bit. 
お湯で見えないから、最初に低いでいた。

After we'd moved, an older woman came along. 
この後におばあちゃんは来た。

I said, "We can see the parking lot from here."
私は「ここから駐車場が見える」と言いた。

She replied, "I'm old, I'm not shy."
おばあちゃんは「恥ずかしくない」と言いた。

After the onsen, we went for lunch. This was the view from the restaurant.
温泉の後に昼食へ行った。レストランからこれが見えた。

We had fondue!
フォンデュをたべた。

While we were eating, a rainbow appeared for just a couple of minutes. I was glad my cell phone was handy.
食べる時に虹が見たけど、速かった。携帯が会った事が良かった。

After lunch, we went for dessert. Yum!
昼食の後にデザートを食べた。美味しかった。

Furano Fall Colors

After a week of having a cold, I needed out of the house on a gorgeous fall Saturday.

１週間に風邪がひいたの後に外で遊びたかった。この土曜日にいい天気があったから。

I decided to head into Furano and see if the fall colors in a park I like were as pretty as they were last year.

富良野へ行った。綺麗な紅葉が見たかった。去年に良かった。

They were.

綺麗だった！

Just wanted to sit on those benches and enjoy the weather. Unfortunately it was just a tad cold for that.

あのベンチで座りたかったけど、ちょっと寒かった。

The leaves are so gorgeous in October.

１０月に葉は綺麗ね。

This tree had all the colors – red, orange, yellow, green.

この木は全部色があった。赤とオレンジと黄色と緑。

So glad I randomly spotted this park a couple of years ago.

この公園を見つけたこと良かった！

English contest

Today we had the Furano Area English Contest.

今日は富良野の英語発表会があった。

It was fun to see so many kids try so hard to use the English they've been using.

たくさん生徒最近習った英語を使て見た。頑張った。

I had 4 groups of kids enter – a group of first years, a group of second years, and two (separate) third years.

私の学校から4グループが入った。1年生のグループ、2年生のグループ、3年生は2人。

They did so well and 3 of the groups took 1st prize in their category. I was so excited for my students.

とても頑張った。1つグループと2人の3年生は1番目できた！

The other fun thing about this contest is that I got to meet the ALTs who are new to Furano this year. They’re a lot of fun!

他の楽しい事は今年の新しいALTがはじめった。

Summer Adventures: Sunflowers

Unless something changes, I’ve just begun my last year in this town, so I’m trying to remember to take all the photos that I’m always too busy to stop and take.

多分今年は私の最後の年、この町に。　だから、「いつもこの写真を撮りたいけど、次回に撮ると」思う写真を撮る。

The sunflowers on the way to one of my small schools are one of those shots. Every year, along the highway between my house and the school, someone plants a huge field of sunflowers. I always think I’ll take a photo next time and then it’s raining or something. So the other day, I stopped for a photo.

このひまわりはいつもこの考えたの写真。毎年誰かこのぐらいひまわりがあるけど、いつも次回に撮ると思う。次回に雨を降ったり、忙し過ぎたりから、できない。最近写真を撮った！

I wasn’t the only one with this idea. While I was there several cars stopped for photos. Most of them stayed on the road, though, meaning not as good of shots.

私だけじゃない。たくさん車が泊まったけど、だいたい道から写真を撮った。

Summer Adventures: The drive home from Wakkanai

We started the day with one last game of Hand and Foot.

最初に手と足と言うゲームした。

It requires a crazy amount of cards.

The sky in Nakagawa is gorgeous.

Furano was so gorgeous that we had to pull over and take a photo.

富良野はとてもきれいから、写真を撮った。

C hadn’t tried lavender ice cream, so we had to do that before she left.

Cはらベンダアイスを食べたことなかったから、食べに行った。

The bright, colorful veggies are always the deciding factor in my decision at this shop.

いつもこの明るい野菜が欲しい。

We both wanted to take photos of our dinner.

Lunch with E-sensei

Monday was a holiday, so E-sensei and I made plans to go out for lunch. We decided to go out for soup curry.

月曜日は休みから、E先生と昼ご飯へ食べた。スープカレーを食べた。

The dishes are handmade, aren’t they cool looking?

After that we headed back to town.
