High School Welcome Party

This year brought some big changes. My main JTE from my first two years was transferred to a new school.

Somehow that means I get two new JTEs. One is a brand new teacher. She seems like she’ll be a lot of fun.

The next is a teacher who worked with a different friend last year. It sounds like his main job is to support my new JTE as she learns the ropes of being a new teacher.

After every one of the new female teachers did their intros, they asked “how about S-sensei?” (as in dating him). I had been thankful that I wasn’t a new teacher having to do an intro. Then all the previous teachers had to do intros. You know how this ends.

Probably the most common sight at an enkai. Pouring more beer (or tea, if it’s my glass).

The whole group. It’s going to be fun to teach with these teachers for another year.

Community

In Japan, teachers move every few years to a new placement and to teach new students. It’s always sad saying goodbye to teachers I’ve gotten to know over the year.

But, one of the things I love about the time when the teachers move, is that often many community members will come out to help.

On Monday T-sensei was leaving. She’s a single, female teacher with plenty of stuff to move, but not so many people to help her. Many students who probably had her as a math teacher came to help, in fact, most of them were high school students, rather than her current junior high students.

I’m always amazed at how a whole apartment ends up fitting in a truck!

Today another teacher moved out and another in. They both didn’t have very much stuff, so the whole group didn’t need to come and help.

Also, my list of things to photograph while in Japan is here. If you have any other ideas, feel free to let me know what else I should add : )

Photo Challenge Day 29

March 29: Pastel

I don’t own anything that is pastel colors except the small collection of pastel colors in my 24-count colored pencil box.

Not so many pictures today. I helped K-sensei get ready to move today. We cleaned lots of things that needed done before all the teachers can descend on her house and pack it into a truck. It was fun to have one last chance to chat with her before she leaves.

Besides that, I switched from my winter coat today to my windbreaker. On the walk to K-sensei’s house, it was perfect weather for such a thing. On the way home it snowed!

Tomorrow’s Easter!
