Okinawa, day 3

We woke up early this morning to capture some sunrise photos. Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a sunrise. 

今朝日の出の写真を撮るために早い起きた。でも、曇り過ぎたから、日の出があまり見なかった。

After that, we headed off to Taketomi Island for the morning. Our main goal was to ride a glass-bottomed boat and see some fish. 

それから、朝に竹富島に行った。魚を見るためにグラスボートを乗りたかった。

After we came back, we went driving around Ishigaki Island. It was a grey, Oregon-like day. But it wasn't hot and we had fun. 

帰ってから、石垣島にドライブした。雲から、オレゴン州見たい日があった。でも、暑くなかった。そして、楽しかった。

Okinawa - Day 1

After a long day of trains, busses and airplanes, R and I finau made it to Okinawa at about 10 pm. 

長い旅行の後にRと10時ぐらい沖縄に着いた！

First, we had to see if the Convenience store had any Okinawa stuff to try. 

最初沖縄のコンビニに行った。

They did. We have Okinawa mystery tea, which turned out to be Jasmine tea. Yum! 

コンビニでこの不思議なお茶があった。ジャスミン茶の同じけど。

After we checked in, we had to find our way to the beach. What better way to celebrate arriving in Okinawa than dipping your toes in the ocean? 

ホテル行ってから海が見つけた！足だけ入れた。

Cell phone photos don't do it justice, but it was a beautiful evening.

After the training

After the training, T came and picked E and I up from the hotel. Then we headed for Abashiri, our first stop in our fun 3-day weekend trip.

研修の後にTちゃんはEと私に迎えに行った。女満別から網走へ行った。

We looked at an Abashiri guide to decide where to eat. We decided on a restaurant that boasted that they were “まずくて、高い” (not delicious and expensive). We were curious.

網走の案内地図を見て、どこで食べて決めた。レストランの説明は「まずくて、高い」。私たちは好奇心をそそった。

The first thing to do, of course, in any city is to find a parking space.

最初に大きい市に駐車場を見つける。

This proved difficult, so we decided to buy donuts and park in Mr. Donuts’ parking lot.

難しかったから、ミスタードーナツで買ってミスタードーナツで駐車した。

After that, we headed to the restaurant.

それから、レストランへ行った。

The first thing we ordered, was onigiri (rice balls).

最初の食べ物はおにぎり。

We decided to try a new fish, Nametakarei.

新しい魚を食べて見た。なめたかれいですね。

We also decided to try this, henpen cheese.

これも食べて見た。はんぺんチーズですね。

The restaurant was actually delicious and not so expensive.

実はレストランは美味しくて高すぎなかった。

400th blog post!

This is my 400th blog post! 

400回目ブログした！

This blog started as a way to share my adventures in Japan. In just over 4 years, I ended up writing 400 blog posts and giving myself a fun reason to take more photos (did I really need a reason?). 

最初にこのブログは出身いる人は日本にいるのする事を見える。でも、4年ぐらいに400回に書いて、楽しい理由は最も写真を撮る。

When I look through the old posts, they're full of fun memories from my time in Japan. 

昔のブログを見ている時にたくさんいい思い出ある。

Things like my magical rock heater and having my garbage explode right before I got to the cage. 

例えばマジカル石があるストーブ、爆裂するごみ。

Fun things in class like playing junken for the first time or having my students chant my name. 

授業に楽しいのは最初じゃんけん大会、生徒は私の名前をチャントした。

Of course, living in Hokkaido so many fun memories are filled with snow. My first time snowboarding, Tomamu's ice village, and the Abashiri Drift Ice. 

もちろん、北海道に住んでいるから、たくさんいい雪に思い出ある。スノーボードを始めた、網走の流氷。

Other things were a bit more difficult. Like my car accident, and remembering a good friend. 

難しい事もあった。車の事故、親しい友達が思い出した。

Re-reading my blog makes me smile. I can't wait to see what other adventures the next year brings.

Summer Adventures: In Nemuro

After our drive to Nemuro, we got to hang with K and V. Unfortunately, V had to work, so K took us around Nemuro. 

根室へ行ったの後にKとVと遊んだ。残念の事はVは仕事があったから、Kは私たちと観光した。

First we headed out to Cape Nosappu to see the most eastern point in Japan. 

最初は納沙布岬へ行った。納沙布岬は日本の最東の所！

Now I've been to the northern most, southern most and eastern most points in Hokkaido. 

今北海道の最北と最南と最東の所へ行ったことある！

K said this is the arch of friendship between for Japan and Russia. 

Kはこのアーチは日本とロシアの友情のアーチと言った。

Then we headed on to Cape Nosappu Lighthouse, the oldest on in Hokkaido. 

次は納沙布岬の灯台へ行った。このサイトで北海道の一番昔のと書いた。

So much fog! 

霧が多い！

K and I found our 4-year friendship memorial (we came to Japan at the same time). 

Kと私の４年間の友情の思い出の石を見つけた。（Kと同じ時に日本へ来た）。

The Car Rock. V's students said, it's called Car Rock because you can only get there by car.

After Car Rock, it was time for Sushi. 

次は昼ごはん。寿司を食べた。

We had to try Nemuro's famous crab! 

根室の有名なカニを食べたかった。

Of course, since it's my favorite, I had to order eggplant. 

もちろん、大好きから、ナスの食べた。

One more chance to eat the crab, in miso soup. It looks like it's just going to walk right out of my soup. 

もう１回食べてみる。味噌汁から歩く見たいね。

After lunch, N and I headed north to explore more. 

昼ごはんの後にNと北へ行った。

First, we stopped at Odaito's michi-no-eki. 

最初におだいとの道の駅へ止まった。

After that stop, we made our way to the Notsuke Peninsula.
次は野付半島。

The beach was really pretty. 

海はきれいね。

Power lines are always ruining my shots. 

日本で送電線はいつも写真は良くなくなる。

Betsukai has a really cool poster for their town. 

別海町のポスターはきれい。

When we got back, it was dinner time. 

帰ってから、晩御飯の時。
