First day of boarding

I’m super behind on blogging. Probably because of boarding season this year.

This was the first day of boarding season. B and I met up with some friends and did exactly one run because of another event.

Hi there blog readers! It’s been a while since my last blog, sorry about that!

I’ll have to catch you up on fun recent events later. But for now, here’s the fun events from this evening.

I got to one of my tiny elementary schools before dark. They had lit the ice candles and they were glowing beautifully!

After they lit the candles, we went inside.

While the kids were sorting out where they wanted to sit, one of my students younger siblings (preschool age) remembered me and requested that I sit next to him. Soo cute!!

After eating, two of my boys started talking to me. One of them came at the beginning of the school year. He was popping up with questions in English that I definitely hadn’t taught him!

400th blog post!

This is my 400th blog post!

This blog started as a way to share my adventures in Japan. In just over 4 years, I ended up writing 400 blog posts and giving myself a fun reason to take more photos (did I really need a reason?).

In other news, I had my first English club of the year today! I didn’t know it was even going to continue this year until yesterday.

I have 4 students this year – 3 girls and 1 boy.

We shared some things about ourselves and then we played Apples to Apples. Best English club game, EVER.

I had fun, the kids had fun and we all finished with a smile. Now I’ve gotta think of something good for next week.

A conversation in English class

Here’s a conversation I had in class with two of my students.

Me: Are you ready? (to the whole class).

Student 1: No. Never.

Me: You’re a bad student today! (My smile revealing that I don’t think this at all).

Student 2: I’m a good student!

Me: You forgot your homework today!  (Also with a big smile).

Fun moments in the classroom

In Japan, students and their teachers eat lunch in the classroom. It’s a fun time to get to chat with the students about whatever is going on and usually a good chance to practice my Japanese.

Yesterday, I walked in to the 2nd year classroom (where I eat my lunch), and one of my students was singing my name, “Rebecca, Rebecca, Rebecca!” I didn’t know why, but it made me laugh.

After a few times of this, I decided that if he was going to be silly, I could be too. So I started singing his name back to him, “D~, D~, D~.” He got a laugh out of that, too.

A day in Furano

The day started with meeting a friend at the station just before lunch time. After we met, we went and found the visitor’s guide that now features us!

While in the visitor’s center, we spotted a flier for Furano Burger and said let’s go there for lunch, we’d both heard good things.

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 028

R’s favorite Japanese past time is looking through the Café books they put out. Here she’s found the one that featured this café and is investigating thoroughly.

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 029

After I went looking for some good photos around the shop, our food came. This is the standard Furano burger.

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 040

When we finished our food, we went on some not so exciting errands and then headed up to the New Prince Hotel area to visit Ninguru Terrace – the perfect place for a stroll in the winter snow. And when it’s not Christmas or birthday shopping time, a cheap place to explore.

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 047

When you walk up, these snowmen greet you – on one side of the map, they say Ninguru Terrace. On the other side, they say “he yokoso” (welcome to). Such a fun way to enter.

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 049

The snow and being in the middle of the forest was so pretty!

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 058

Watch out for bears!

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 059

More snow, cottages and stairs!

2012-01-28 Day with Ros 060

After our walk around we had gotten cold enough we decided it was time to go check out the last of the Onsen in Furano we hadn’t visited – the one in the New Prince Hotel.

Their onsen wasn’t particularly huge or with lots of baths, but it had a lot of nice resting areas.

When we came back out we saw the night lights of the terrace and decided it warranted a quick walk through, just enough to take a few pictures and head to the car.
